A quick reflection criterion

Reflection for students in assessment tasks is vital - too often they are only focused on their mark and not what they have learnt.  There are many strategies out there, but this is the one that I have developed: TRUCKS

Go through your assessment and next to each question, write one of the following letters: T: I got this question wrong because of TIME R: I got this question wrong because I didn't READ it properly U: I got this question wrong because I didn't UNDERSTAND it C: I got this question CORRECT K: I got this question wrong because I didn't KNOW how to do it S: I got this question wrong because I made a SILLY mistake Count up how many of each letter you got, then answer the following questions: What did I do well?  What could I improve?  What will I do now?

This mnemonic has been used in a number of variations in my school, and has become an easy yet effective way for students to reflect on their assessment after it has been marked.
